Writing A Strong College Admissions Essay
Writing A Strong College Admissions Essay If the prompt asked for at least 500 words, we would add another sentence to support one of the paragraphs. Since that was not a requirement though, we kept the essay as-is to avoid sounding wordy or repetitive. If our thesis was that cell phones should NOT be controlled in college, we would explain the dangers of not having access to cell phones. The body paragraphs should provide support for the thesis. Why do you think this way, and what evidence do you have to support those beliefs? This is the big point you are trying to make, which is usually an answer to a question in the essay prompt. You will use the rest of the essay to support this thesis. You can use the feedback to improve the essay before submitting it. Give yourself at least two full days to write the essay. You can use the first day to write a draft and do some minor editing. Each paragraph should be a cohesive element with an intro and conclusion. The body paragraphs should flow well from one point to the next. You should approach all essays with the same mentality, regardless of their length. Your goal is to compose a piece that clearly guides the reader through your thoughts and reasoning. You may have to adjust how you convey those thoughts based on the length. Always think about your audience when writing a scholarship essay. What organization is issuing the scholarship, and how can you tie that into your writing? What is the underlying information they want to learn from your essay? Write in a way that shows you are the best candidate for the scholarship. If you have a chance to show your essay to your English instructor or academic adviser, do so. We might get compensated for example for mentioning partners, by you, the user, making a clicking, purchasing, or signing up for a product or service through a tracking link. In no way are we responsible for the accuracy, relevance, timeliness, or completeness of any information on these external websites. Then on the second day, you can look at the essay with fresh eyes to do your final edits. The primary argument supporting cell phone control in the classroom is the fact that phones can be distracting. Your essay should always have a beginning, middle, and end. 4-6 body paragraphs that provide evidence to back up your thesis. Not only do cell phones distract instructors, but they may also distract students trying to pay attention to the lecture. This is the same effect as a moviegoer looking at his phone in a theater. Even if the phone makes no noise, the light from the screen is enough to catch someoneâs attention. The essay covered everything we wanted to without the need for extra words. The paragraphs should flow from one to the next like a constant stream of thought. Each paragraph should conclude the statement made at the beginning of the paragraph. Everything in your essay revolves around your thesis.

Essay Writing Technique
Essay Writing Technique To be honest, most of us have probably cleaned our rooms and done the dishes to put off writing an essay that little bit longer. As a writer, you also need to organize your paragraphs overall. An essay should be organized according to an internal logic wherein one idea leads logically to the next. A topic sentence is a thesis statement for your paragraph. Instead, narrow it down to a more specific subject like one important incident in the women's rights movement. Learn to write the perfect 500 word essay with this step-by-step guide. Includes sample introduction, body, and conclusion paragraphs. This should only be a sentence or two, and can also be used to link the present paragraph to the next. Now, I'm not going to lie - this guide probably won't change that. Take your time and organize the information you have in a logical narration based on the outline. If you don't care about reducing alcohol advertising, don't pick this topic for a persuasive essay. If you decide to write about something that matters to you, you will sound more convincing. When writing essays it is extremely important to cite other peopleâs opinions, and original sources, on what youâre writing about. Contrasting views should be sought; itâs unlikely that everyone agrees on the topic, so show youâve looked at all the possible angles. It provides the specific argument the rest of the paragraph will prove. Because your topic sentence is so focused, it requires some elaboration, so your second sentence needs to expand on the first. Sometimes this means placing it early so the rest of introduction can expand and provide supporting arguments. Other times, you might find you need other arguments before your thesis. Often students struggle with essays because they don't understand essay structure. Had I selected a more vague topic like âAmerican Women in the 1930s and 1940sâ, it would have been a far more difficult essay to write. Create a list at the end of the paper where you acknowledge all the books and articles you referred to in your own written piece. If you donât cite the sources, you might be accused of plagiarism. At this stage of essay writing, focus primarily on the content. And the reader will find the paper more interesting. Choose a topic that's appropriate to the paperâs length. No amount of glitter or '90s WordArt can make that property law essay more exciting. Writing essays is like paying bills â" we all have to do it at certain points in our academic careers, and it's not always the most exciting experience. And essays donât emerge, fully formed, like Athena from Zeusâs head. No student can create such an essay in one draft. To get there, we tell our students, theyâll need a meaningful, effective, multistep writing process. Practice timed essay writing with sample test questions before test day. Avoid broad topics as you cannot cover them fully due to the limited number of words. If you're writing a fourâpage essay, don't retell the whole history of women's rights. With a little practice, you may not feel as pressured by the clock on test day. As you write and gather more evidence, your thesis statement may change â" and thatâs okay! Thesis statements are not set in stone; they are meant to change as the paper develops. It is important to have a topic that is specific enough that finding sources is relatively easy, but broad enough that you can write many pages about it. As an example, I wrote a 12-page paper on the effect of World War II on the rights of women in American society.

Basic Essay Structure
Basic Essay Structure For example, you should try and use the same terminology as you find in the literature in order to sound more professional and scholarly. You should also ensure that there is transition and flow between each paragraph and between each argument. Try to explain specifically and clearly how each argument relates to your thesis to make sure your essay sounds more cohesive. Also remember that paragraphs are limited to one idea and should also make a clear point that connects to your argument and thesis. Here is a very usefulhandouton paragraphs and transition. The most common structures found in academic writing are comparisons, contrasts, causes, effects, and problems/solutions. In college, most of our writing is to inform or persuade the reader â" most likely the professor â" that a position you have taken has merit. Writing a persuasive academic essay involves conducting research, incorporating that research into your writing, and structuring your essay using paragraphs. Lots of people say that you should write in chunks of 500 words as youâre reading. This is one way of doing things, and it works for some people. This brief guide is intended to provide you with basic tips which will allow you to succeed in undergraduate essay writing. If you follow the advice presented here, your essays will probably be quite good. If you donât, they might still be alright, but they probably wonât be as good as they could have been. You should also look for someone who isnât afraid to give you constructive criticism. Having said that, remember that everyone writes differently (i.e. has a different style), so you should also be critical of changes offered to you. However, to make your argument more clear, you also needwarrant. When editing, you should read slowly and out loud to catch run-on sentences or unclear ideas. It is also a good idea to have someone else read your paper. Mainly it addresses the main arguments and debates in the literature on your topic and how your line of argument is consistent or different from those. It will help you to pick up contradictions and weaknesses in your arguments before you start writing and it keeps you from going off-track. This is also a good stage to check with your professor or TA. You can meet with them in person or e-mail them your outline and thesis to get feedback. Check out thisoutline handoutfrom the Writing Centre. This is to say, if youâve been taught that your essay should unravel as you go, and I shouldnât understand your whole argument until the very end, then youâve been taught wrong. I should know exactly what youâre going to argue by the time Iâve finished your introduction. This isnât an Agatha Christie novel, itâs an argument. b) We carefully check your instructions with our essay writers and a personal essay writer is assigned to your order. Sometimes, that logical connection will be clear and obvious, where no explanation from the writer is needed. More often though, the writer needs to supply the warrant, explain how and why a particular piece of evidence is good support for a specific claim. This will tremendously improve the clarity of your writing and will help people outside your discipline to better follow and understand your arguments. There are important stylistic guidelines you should follow in the body of your paragraph. Warrant is a fancy term that basically shows the relevance of the claim. It is the principle that lets you connect reason and claim. It is the logical connection between a claim and a supporting fact .

Introduction To The Gre Issue Task
Introduction To The Gre Issue Task Brainstorming means producing ideas related to a theme. There is no set model for an essay, but the English for Uni website presents one popular way to do it. Instead, write aninterestingessay, write an essay you think is fascinating. And when youâre finished, go back and edit it until itâs âgoodâ according to your teacherâs standards. Because when you focus on external approval, you shut down your subconscious, and the subconscious is the source of your creativity. What this means practically is that when youâre trying to write that perfect, A-plus-worthy sentence, youâre turning off most of your best resources. Every once in a while, I would write a really good essay, but mostly I skated by with Bâs and A-minuses. Essays help you discover more about a topic and write a reasoned analysis of the issues in question, using a range of external sources to support your position. That means that the best essays are about surprise, âYou probably think itâs one way, but in reality, you should think of it this other way.â See tip #3 for more on this. You can read my ten best tips for having fun while writing an essay that earns you the top grade, or checkout this presentation designed by our friends at Canva Presentations. Yes, you need to follow the guidelines in your assignment. The last sentence is a broad statement relating to the significance of the argument. The first sentence links the conclusion to the discussion in the previous paragraph. The first two articles have been cited 90 times and 103 times respectively, suggesting that they might be good sources for your essay. The links to the right indicate that you can access the articles through your university website. Essays also sometimes begin with an issue, outline the scope and then move on to end the introduction with the thesis statement. Sometimes, particularly in very short essays, the essay will begin with an issue rather than a background statement. Writing your introduction last means you are more likely to have a tighter fit between the introduction, main body and conclusion because you already know what your essay will be about. If your teacher tells you to write a five-paragraph essay, then write a five-paragraph essay! However, within those guidelines, find room to express something that is uniquely you. Stop trying to write a good essay (or even a âgood-enoughâ essay). Thus, it will be argued that despite chocolateâs positive effect in some cases on mood and the cardiovascular system it has also been linked to addiction and obesity. Leave yourself enough time to look at your essay more than once. For a 1000 word essay you need at least three days to redraft your essay. Try and achieve a balance between both types of in text-references in your essay writing. The best place to start (assuming you havenât already been given a prescribed reading list!) is by using an academic database. If you are not sure how to use a database, then book an appointment with your subject librarian at your institution. Concluding sentenceThe Concluding Sentence should echo the main point of the paragraph and function as a bridge to the next paragraph.N.B. Paragraphs should be balanced â" keep to the âno less than 3 sentences per paragraphâ rule. Elaboration and examplesElaboration of the main point should add more detailed information in relation to the topic sentence. The realities of chocolate are more down to earth; a number of these realities will be addressed in this essay. Chocolate has chemical properties that can influence mood and there is possible evidence for some positive impacts of chocolate on cardiovascular health. Yet, such positive attributes are counterbalanced somewhat by the argument that, in some instances, chocolate can be viewed as a drug rather than a food. Moreover, there is the possibility of some correlation between over-consumption of chocolate and obesity. The following example is based around a 1000 word discussion essay. To read about essays in greater detail, download this PDF or Word document. Your paragraphs should be balanced â" keep to the rule of no less than 3 sentences per paragraph. Scope â" where you outline what exactly is going to be covered in relation to your argument.2. Main bodyEach paragraph should focus on one idea only.

How To Improve Your Essay Writing Quickly
How To Improve Your Essay Writing Quickly Some people find it hard to translate their ideas into written words, while others just do not know how to begin. This article gives four easy steps to show you how to write an essay. Two other important considerations in revising sentences are diction and economy . Your initial writing attempts wonât be your final draft so donât get too caught up in producing a final piece of work at this point. You will be asked to write an essay based on content you have learnt in class. Once you know exactly what the question is asking of you, do a quick brainstorm to map what you already know about the topic and what you need to find out. If you often get comments on your sentences, try working on one paragraph at a time, and putting each sentence on a new line. A team of vetted degree-holders and professional essay writers is here for you. The Introduction sets the scene for the essay and gives the reader a clear idea of what they can expect. A good introduction briefly introduces the topic and gives signposts to the main points that the essay will address. When I first came to the UK, it was hard to catch up with the study load. Promptness coupled with the highest quality â" thatâs what I like here. The assigned writer turned out to be very knowledgeable in the subject. He absolutely did his best with my research paper, for which Iâm very grateful. In this case, it delivers to you the perfect knowledge you need to come up with the main ideas and points to keep your readers engaged by crafting that perfect essay. Now it is time to look at the full topic and get a grasp of knowledge about the concept. In other words, researching the topic should come next after understanding its subject. After this, you are ready to write the last part of your essay, which is the conclusion. Here, you will emphasize the points or arguments discussed in the main body. You may also provide a synopsis as you close your essay. You can then proceed to write the introduction, in which you can give an overview of your essayâs main body. The introduction will let the reader know what to expect from your article, and it can also give some background information. Good essays are presented in a clear and logical format. Unlike reports, essays do not include headings so the links between paragraphs should be clear for the reader. This will make it much easier to spot common errors, for instance, sentences which depend on another sentence for their meaning, or are missing parts. Once you've checked it, you can join all the sentences back up in the paragraph again and move on to the next. Once you are familiar with these sections, brainstorm and map out key points that you will cover in each section. Once you have a fair idea about your essay topic, start writing up your essay. Due to time constraints, I only audited this course. I found the content engaging and easy to absorb. New students will find this course very useful in learning and developing basic and essential essay skills. This can be done by looking through related books and guides. Better still, following the digital path can come in handy. This way, you stand a chance to be presented with a large number of sources that provide quality and concise information about your essay topic.

Simplify Your Writing A Key Writing Technique
Simplify Your Writing: A Key Writing Technique Simplicity is an underrated writing technique. The reason is that you want to communicate ideas without obstructionsââ¬âmaking things needlessly complicated doesnââ¬â¢t really serve your audience well. Worse, if you canââ¬â¢t explain things simply, it may show a lack of understanding on your part. Writers can fall victim to a tendency to overcomplicate their writing when the simplest methods would more than suffice. In this article, weââ¬â¢ll take a look at eight ways to make your writing simpler and easier-to-understand. Writing Technique 1: Know Your Audience Before writing a piece, ask yourself who the intended audience is. The more familiar you are with who will read your work, the easier it is to communicate in their language. For instance, if you are writing a childrenââ¬â¢s book, you know not to use language outside the grasp of children. However, writing an article explaining a scientific concept in an academic journal would not be the place for a six-year-oldââ¬â¢s vocabulary. Advanced concepts may need explanations and terms defined beforehand if your audience is intended to be larger than niche enthusiasts. Think about it: if you read a foreign language, do your eyes tend to skip around and guess what the words might mean? Essentially, your role as the writer is to communicate ideas. Keep in mind who the audience is and what their ability of understanding is. If you fail to know your audience, your work will put readers off. Writing Technique 2: Know What Youre Trying to Say To make your writing clear to the reader, make sure you know what youââ¬â¢re trying to say. It sounds simple and it is simple. Ask yourself a series of questions beforehand: Whatââ¬â¢s the topic? Whatââ¬â¢s my point? Whatââ¬â¢s the structure? Letââ¬â¢s use this article as an example. The topic is making your writing simpler; the point is that there a number of methods to use to make your writing clearer; the structure is organized by a number of strategies to make your writing easier to read. Slap on an introduction and a conclusion and the article basically writes itself. If you find your writing deviating into tangents or that you are losing your focus, these three questions can help rein in your writing to a manageable size. Writing Technique 3: Donââ¬â¢t Assume Definitions This oneââ¬â¢s a no-brainer. If you have a large word that isnââ¬â¢t in a common usage or a concept that requires a simplified explanation, include them! Assuming these from the outset of your work reads more like a thesis than something that a layperson can understand. Also, donââ¬â¢t be afraid to repeat this simplicity throughout your work. Readers tend to scan instead of devour every word. If you are building upon concepts, make sure to consistently explain how these new concepts and words build upon one another, while using your explanations as a motif. [Note: If youââ¬â¢re looking for an interesting work that illustrates this concept perfectly, look at the popular web comic XKCDââ¬â¢s Thing Explainer. Thing Explainer only uses 1,000 of the most frequently used English words to create a ââ¬Å"How Things Workâ⬠type of book that describes space travel, natural phenomenon, and other scientific concepts. Nothing is assumed in this work and it is a breeze to read.] Writing Technique 4: Use Font Styles Need emphasis? Take a look at the last headingââ¬â¢s text (ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t Assume Definitionsâ⬠). Adding font styles like italics, bold, underline and varying the size of text helps a reader know what to remember. Having ââ¬Å"include themâ⬠underlined and ââ¬Å"consistentlyâ⬠italicized may seem arbitrary inclusions, but theyââ¬â¢re not. In fact, if you read the bold header text and the stylized text, the result is: ââ¬Å"donââ¬â¢t assume definitions include them consistently.â⬠Simple enough, right? Writing Technique 5: Shorter is Better Brevity is the goal. By including shorter sentences and smaller paragraphs, you avoid the wall-of-text that exhausts readers before they even get a chance to understand your point. Donââ¬â¢t believe me? The second paragraph could read: ââ¬Å"Short sentences and paragraphs donââ¬â¢t exhaust your reader.â⬠Your goal is to avoid the tl:dr (too long ; didnââ¬â¢t read) by just writing shorter from the outset. Writing Technique 6: Donââ¬â¢t Repeat Redundancies Avoid repetition. Many freelance writers are paid by the word and frequently pad their writing when it could be simpler and shorter. While it might be good in the short-run or for search-engine optimized works, repeated words make the reader lose the point of what youââ¬â¢re writing about. Worse, needless repetitions make it seem as though you didnââ¬â¢t copyedit your work. Again, thereââ¬â¢s a time and place for repetition, but it should be used for deliberate emphasis. When copyediting your work, try to spot words that could use a variantââ¬âor eliminate the redundancy altogether. Writing Technique 7: Quality Control Keep your quality consistent with your other written works. It may be tempting to include a short nonchalant blog entry or an unfinished article outline as a temporary placeholder, but you can ultimately frustrate your audience and have them go elsewhere for content. Remember that your audience may want to check out your older writing without having to wade through half-finished or incomplete ideas. Keep it consistent to keep it simple. That being said, if you find that you have lots of different content, create separate webpages that address each outlet. For instance, including your fiction in the same place that your non-fiction work is located creates confusion for the reader. You can add links to your other work, but separation is key. Writing Technique 8: Omit Needless Words If havenââ¬â¢t had a chance to read Strunk Whiteââ¬â¢s The Elements of Style, omitting needless words is an important point for clearing up your writing thatââ¬â¢s emphasized throughout the book. Hereââ¬â¢s three examples of the same phrase: 1) ââ¬Å"Go away,â⬠said Jane angrily, gnashing her teeth in response. 2) ââ¬Å"Go away,â⬠said Jane angrily. 3) ââ¬Å"Go away,â⬠said Jane. Readers are smarter than you think. Examples 1 2 feature needless words and actions. The words ââ¬Å"Go awayâ⬠imply a dismissal or anger, while ââ¬Å"in responseâ⬠is redundant when answering an action or another personââ¬â¢s dialogue. Finally, ââ¬Å"gnashing her teethâ⬠doesnââ¬â¢t add anything else that isnââ¬â¢t already implied by her emotions beforehand. What does ââ¬Å"gnashingâ⬠mean anyways? The third example leaves it to the reader and the context of your previous writing to illustrate why sheââ¬â¢s speaking, to whom she is speaking to, and what it all means.

Does the Outcome of the Antigone Suggest That Creon Was...
Sophocles Antigone is, at its simplest, a tragedy of conflict and misunderstandings. In the play, the laws of the gods are set up against the laws of man, and the two appear irreconcilable as the values are upheld by equally opposing characters, Creon and Antigone respectively. Indeed, Wilkins and Macleod decide that in Antigone `not only is there conflict, there is also a refusal even to recognise the others point of view (23). Thus Chorus significantly warn against the pursuit of extremes and sing about the need for men to reconcile human and divine law: When he weaves in the laws of the land, and the justice of the gods that binds his oaths together he and his city rise high (409-12) In this essay I intend toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Creon is brazenly pompous, informing the Chorus that `I now posses the throne and all its powers (193), believing that `the ship of state is safe in his hands if he keeps it protected from traitors, such as Antigones brother, Polynices. Creons claim that `whoever places a friend above the good of his own country, he is nothing (204-5) is uncompromisingly maintained throughout the play, steadfastly refusing to give in to Antigones pleas to bury Polynices, believing him a `traitor (585) of the state, who cannot be given the same funeral rites as his brother, Eteocles, the `patriot ( 585). Wilkins and Macleod acknowledge that the conflict between a friend/loved and the state was a live issue in the fifth century (31) but Sophocles presents Creon as having no qualms in placing the state over his blood-relatives, inflexibly refusing the burial of his nephew and insisting on sentencing his niece, Antigone. Creon is also clearly power mad, as he unashamedly and autocratically informed his son, Haemon, that `that man the city places in authority, his orders must be obeyed, large and small, right and wrong (748-751), showing no remorse for wanting all the citizens to obey his law forbidding burial for Polynices. Indeed, Mark Griffith in his book Sophocles Antigone states that `Many have found Kreon to be wholly at fault, his authority illegitimate, his edict impious and foolish, his behaviour and language intemperate and vindictive (28). Both deal with the aftermath of Antigoneââ¬â¢s choice to go bury her brother Polyneices even though the king, Creon, has expressly forbidden the burial of the traitor brother. Decision Making Exercise For Fatigue - 912 Words
Week #3 Decision Making Exercise Throughout our daily routines and task we all have times when we become overwhelmed and fatigued. These decisions are usually affected due to fatigue as mentioned in the article written by John Tirony (NYT, Aug. 17,2011). This is caused from not having the amount of time dedicated to the decisions we have to make. When we have fatigue set in on the choices we have to make whether it be from lack of sleep or other causes we tend to make wasteful choices. In order to make the best decision in almost all scenarios we need to make sure that we have taken all of the steps necessary to complete the process with good judgement. These challenges tend to come for me when it is later in the days when I have exhausted all of my energy throughout the day with so many decisions and become anxious to get everything finished. This never allows me to make the best choices no matter what the situation and could always use some time to reflect on what are the true deci ding factors. When I feel that I have to make a decision and believe that some form of fatigue is setting in, I need to take the time to meditate, pray and ask for assistance in the process of my decision. I will make sure that the more important decisions and task that require more thinking and time need to be addressed first rather than letting them fall so late in the day. Interpersonal & E communications
Question: Write about theInterpersonal E communications. Answer: Introduction Business communication includes all types of communication that exists within an organisation and between the organisation and all its stakeholders(Newman, 2014). In the recent years there have been many changes in information and telecommunication technology (ICT) which have affected and changed business communication(Golbeck, 2015). Social media is a tool of ICT which provides a platform for people to interact and generate content (Aral, et al., 2013). Social media has allowed a new method of marketing communication for organisations where they can interact more frequently and freely with the customer (Funk, 2014). Therefore, it is important to assess the impact of social media on business communication. Samsung Electronics has been chosen as a case to understand importance of social media for business. The Impact of Social Media on Contemporary Business Communication In the last 20 years modern business has become highly competitive. Customers have become more educated, brand conscious and quality conscious(Butler, 2012). In the late 21st century globalization has become very rampant due to liberalization of many economies(Butler, 2012). This has led to a mixed customer base for the organisations. This poses a challenge for the marketing communication channels used for convincing the customer(Dahlen, 2014). Telecommunication revolution has added to this challenge as now the customers have become more aware of products due to exposure to internet. Consumer can find out about the success and failures of a product sitting thousands of miles away with the click of a finger. Additionally, competition is rising due to a rising demand from growing needs, wants and aspiration of the global customer(Lambin, 2013). Therefore, to remain ahead of the competition, organisations need a connective medium with the customer to create brand loyalty and brand recognition for their products(Rasmussen, 2012). Hence, it is beneficial for organisations to use telecommunication technology to convert these challenges into business opportunities. Samsung electronics is one of the largest electronics and mobile handset manufacturing company globally(Michell, 2011), Customers of the firm are very aware of product quality and technology. Additionally, to stay ahead of its main rival Apple, the firm has to use various communication techniques(Michell, 2011). Social media offers a mass reach, low cost method to Samsung to market new products and create buzz about them. ICT has brought many changes in business communication(Morabito, 2012). Inter organizational communication and intra organizational communication has become faster. Due to electronic tools like e-mails, digital messaging services and video calling it has become easier to communicate with employees and customers(Uhl Gollenia, 2014). For example, a manager at Samsung can now communicate with his team vie email and video conferencing even if he is sitting a long distance away. Modern business has become faster due to changes communication technology. Changes in business communication allow business to maintain relationship with stakeholders like customers, suppliers and financers, without face to face meetings. This has become possible through social media, emails and video conferencing.(Pham Pham, 2014) Digital technology has reduced delays in conduct of business and enhanced greeter opportunities for business transactions(Uhl Gollenia, 2014). Therefore, changes in technology have led to faster business and reduction of delay time. Social media is a platform created via ICT and interactive features of web 2.0 which enables users to exchange views, ideas and content over the internet (Harris, 2014). This has greatly helped business organisations to generate content about their products on social media and create buzz about them. For example, Samsung launched its latest mobile phone S8 recently(Samsung, 2017). However, the product had created considerable buzz among customers before its launch because of aggressive social media marketing by Samsung(Samsung, 2017). The firm actively promoted the product on its social handle and encouraged customers to post queries and expectations from the new product. Social media is becoming very popular as a business communication tool. Chief social media platforms are blogs, forms and social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube (Golbeck, 2015). On these platforms, businesses can post content about their products and encourage reviews and feedback. The platforms allow business organisations to create buzz about the product, generate feedback and interact with customers. For example, Samsung has a social media handle on Twitter where customers can write their view and discuss the product quality and performance. Social media is becoming very important for business communication (Funk, 2014). Business can conduct many activities like promoting, branding and relationship management through communication via social media(Funk, 2014). Social media has increased the pace of business communication. If a business uses traditional communication methods for announcing new features in a product, change in pricing or a new product launch; it would need expensive communication methods like advertising, publicity, press release etc. Additionally, the traditional medium would take time to spread the messages around(Yeshin, 2012). On the other hand, though social media, communication of this type of business activities can be spread very fast(Morabito, 2012). Additionally, social media platforms are inexpensive methods. These platforms have very less cost due to free platforms like Facebook and Twitted(Lambin, 2013). Additionally, as the younger generation is very internet savvy, social media also has a very big reach which goes beyond geographical boundaries(Golbeck, 2015). Therefore, changes in modern technology have allowed businesses to use faster and cost effective modes of business communication. Samsung has to spend millions of Dollars on advertising and promotion of newly launched mobile phones each year(Michell, 2011). It also has to do massive publicity and public relations activities to generate peoples interest in the new products. However, through social media this can be done very cost effectively(Rasmussen, 2012). Especially prelaunch buzz and interest generation is very effective via social media. Social media directly involves customers in the prelaunch activities and allows firms to generate interest by talking about the product specifications(Funk, 2014). Customer queries and doubts are also solved via the social media network and various other aspects of the product can also be talked about(Golbeck, 2015). Publicity and public relations can never give this type of mass interest generation(Harris, 2014). Additionally, through social media the firm can judge interest level, attention level and retention level of the product through customer interaction. More and more people are today using social media and other web technologies due to their easy access and mass reach(Newman, 2014). Firms can use sites like YouTube and Instagram to post videos and photos of their products in order to communicate the product to the customers. Customers can also see demonstration videos of the product via these social media sites. Samsung uses these sites to demonstrate its products(Samsung, 2017). For example, one can find reviews of newly launched S8 mobile phone on YouTube. Customers can also find comparison of S8 with pervious products like S7 and comparison with competitor products like Apple IPhone 7. Therefore, social media provides a very potent tool to organisations to market their products and communicate them to the customers. Social media also helps in improved visibility of the firm. This helps in improvement of brand equity (Funk, 2014). As consumers can have a direct connect with the firm via social media, the brand loyalty also increases. For example, Samsung Electronics has been able to make its new S8 product visible globally via social media marketing(Samsung, 2017). This otherwise would have taken many weeks of active publicity and advertising. Therefore, business communication has become faster, easier and more interactive due to social media. However, every story has a hind side. Social media has revolutionised business communication. However, there are certain disadvantages which come along with the usage of social media as a tool of business communication(Harris, 2014). Social media gives speed to business. Therefore, any negative viewpoint can lead to negative publicity which can travel very fast. Social media can cause downfall of a brand or a product in a few hours due to negative reviews and remarks. A product failure used to go unnoticed in older day but now people post about it on social media which leads to mass awareness of the failure. This can have a cumulative effect and lead to immense losses in sales and profit (Singh, 2016). Therefore, firms need to be aware about their brand image and take corrective actions immediately if any negative publicity is taking place. Samsung recently faced such negative publicity with the failure of its Note 7 mobile handset. The product had certain battery issues which might have gone unnoticed in the olden days. But with social media the news about the faulty product spread like wild fire and the firm had to withdraw the product from the market. Samsung also had to tender a public apology(Shaw, 2017). Therefore, social media is a very potent business communication tool and can help in building a positive brand image and customer relationship. However, a firm needs to be careful about negative publicity and has to take care of customer reviews and publicity on social media platforms. Conclusion The face of business communication has changed with the advent of new age technologies like social media. Firms can indulge in faster and cheaper communication with the customer. Additionally, social media allows for a platform to create mass brand appeal for the product. Also, customer engagement and product visibility can be improved with the help of social media. However, the firm needs to take care of faulty publicity and needs to take corrective action if such negative publicity is taking place. References Aral, S., Dellarocas, C. Journey to the City of the Dead, or Palm Pyanar and Upokoyny Vinarov Review Essay Example
Journey to the City of the Dead, or Palm Pyanar and Upokoyny Vinarov Review Paper Essay on Journey to the City of the Dead, or Palm Pyanar and Upokoyny Vinarov By reading Amos Tutuola I pushed the head of the book Elizabeth Costello Dzh.M.Kutzee African novel. It it was a question of African authors: their books on the home continent hardly read, and they are forced to work for export, while trying to please both his and other peoples. According to Coetzee, African writers are guided in his work to the west, playing on the identity and originality, but they often forget that the first should write for the people, to write a good book about the pressing issues without looking at the audience. It is also considered the thesis of the oral nature of the African novel. As an example, two authors Amos Tutuola and Ben Okri were mentioned as the most famous of African writers. Such a detailed story on this chapter due to the fact that in part through the prism expressed in her ideas I took the book of Amos Tutuola Journey to the City of the Dead, or Palm Pyanar and Upokoyny Vinarovà » à «Palm Pyanar. is a literary fairy tale, based on the beliefs of the Yoruba African people (thanks Wikipedia!). The main character, who is also the Father of the Gods Vsenasvetemoguschy lost Vinarov, who took it and went to the other world. Life without Pyanaryu Vinarov not sweet, and he embarks on a journey to the City of the Dead, to return a faithful servant. Along the way he meets Death, the Universal Mother, the Giant, as well as a wide variety of spirits, beasts and creatures: Dobychlivyh, terrible, unseen, Red and beautiful. narrative style is really like more came to oral tradition, a very simple, quite specific language (a consequence of Nigerian English), endless repetition and alliteration on paper almost frightening: We will write a custom essay sample on Journey to the City of the Dead, or Palm Pyanar and Upokoyny Vinarov Review specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Journey to the City of the Dead, or Palm Pyanar and Upokoyny Vinarov Review specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Journey to the City of the Dead, or Palm Pyanar and Upokoyny Vinarov Review specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer At first we thought it was a bomb exploded but then realized with whom met with laughter, and here Being othohotalis and laughter laughed for two hours first, we can only wonder and listened to, but less than a minute, we forgot about the pain and began pohohatyvat, then laughed and started. with laughter until yvatsya with laughter, and he laughed and laughed, giggled in different voices and supporting voices we are in lifes nothing funny about not heard Although the book and the Nigerian author, fabulous plot moves are universal:. Hero runs numerous tests, meets with many dangers, defeats or simply running from the clutches of the enemy, he rescues from the lair of the monster beautiful girl, of course, all of this under a thick sauce of local color and legends. Reads easily and quickly, sometimes funny, sometimes surprising, and horizons expanded. According to the general impression, we can agree with Coetzee and recognize the book African lubok (I exaggerate, of course) as held for sale to Western readers-tourists. Reflections Coetzee are without a decent base, especially as he looks at African literature from the inside, but the impressions of the book in any way pleasant. But you can look at the Palm Pyanarya and on the other hand. Tutola writes about love, friendship, treachery in his own fashion, exotic and recognizable. Primitive, but powerful images of dangers, enemies, obstacles encountered on the way of every seeker. The whole book a great metaphor search for happiness man who can be the Father of the Gods Vcenasvetemoguschim, but only when he remembers it and believe in its power. So Amos Tutuola much more interesting and profound than it might seem at first glance.

Africas Pygmy Culture essays
Africa's Pygmy Culture essays Is Africa a country? No, but that is was most people rush to answer, "yes!" Africa however is a continent, the second largest. Over its 11,700,000 square miles is an estimation of 690 million people. That is a whole lot of people and yet, the country still manages to be very under-developed. Within that enormous population of inhabitants, are various similar yet very different branches of people. All of which indeed have like traits and characteristics, but 'to each is his own'- and they do all have their own little culture. The Pygmies are one of those many cultures, and are believed to be the oldest culture in Africa; they believe that they are the oldest culture in the world. Pygmies are a very small people. Standing at the highest of 5 feet tall, and weighing around 90 lbs.. They have the rest of their bodies the same size, shape, and proportion as ours. However, they do range slightly in color- from African American with red tones to yellow tones. Pygmies are gifted with an interesting trait as well; they have unusually large big toes. This is believed to be an adaptation evolved from their excessive climbing and propping themselves with their big toe and using it to clamp branches. Unlike most African tribes, the Pygmies enjoying some style to their hair. They like their hair kept close to their head, with a design or Mohawk shaving. These Pygmies are scattered all around Africa, but seem to inhabit the Democratic Republic of Congo the most, which lies in Central Africa. There have been other groups of Pygmies in places such as South East Asia, Philippines and Congo itself. Within that sum of 690 million people in Africa, you can imagine this small culture has indeed a small number. But, the number is small but unknown. No exact numbers have been documented of indigenous people of the Pygmy culture because they change their location as a whole- over and over and over again. Their populatio...

Auditing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Auditing - Essay Example A high net profit margin indicates that a company converts its sales into profits fast. The net profit margin also considers costs associated with the sale of products. There are several factors which triggered a decrease in the net profit margins. They include: a. Inventories Even though, a company treats inventories as an asset in the balance sheet, the cost of sales are not reported until a sale is actually made. Therefore, it is possible to calculate the cost of sales in inventories. However, market fluctuations can reduce the value of inventories which in turn lead to devaluation of net profit margins. An economic slowdown leads to slow moving inventories and decreases company sales and causes a negative impact on net profit margins. b. Price changes Changes in price affect the number of units sold which in turn influences the profits. It is challenging to price items correctly especially in a perfect market. Therefore, the price point of a product is a primary factor responsibl e for decreasing net profit margin. A decrease in price may in turn cause a decrease in net profit margins. c. ... Examples include rent, salaries and depreciation expenses. Even though, these costs do not change based on the volume or production and sales, they still influence the net profit margin. The gross profit margin is calculated as gross profit as a percentage of sales. According to Pamela and Frank (2010), an increase in gross profit margin from one period to another can be caused by one of the following factors: a) Increase in sales volume which in turn affect sales and the cost of sales b) Increase in sales price which affect sales revenue c) Reduction in the cost of production which affects cost of goods sold. Q2- Transactions or accounts that require additional audit effort The following are the transactions or accounts which require additional audit effort based on question one above: Revenues Operating expenses Inventories Cost of goods sold Q3- Additional Audit work In some situations, an auditor may perform additional procedures in order to determine the reliability of the under lying data (Spencer 2010). The auditor should get evidence from multiple sources depending on the risk of material misstatement and the quality and quantity of audit evidence required. Obtaining evidence from different sources or types increases the level of assurance. The additional audit procedures may include Computer-assisted audit techniques (CAATs) and substantive tests. CAATs help in identifying anomalies from the selected items. However, audit evidence may be gotten from items not selected since the auditor uses professional judgment. Substantive tests entail the activities performed by the auditor during the audit so as to obtain evidence regarding the completeness, validity and accuracy of the account balances and the

Chipotle Mexican Grill Financial Position Case Study - 1
Chipotle Mexican Grill Financial Position - Case Study Example This shows an improvement in the companyââ¬â¢s performance, as it is indicates an increase in the rate of return on the shareholders equity that is going up steadily over the years. More than often, the return on assets ratio gives a measure of effective and efficient utilization of assets in order to produce net profit. It therefore, allows the management an opportunity to enhance the utilization of resources around the company. Chipotle Mexican Grill return on assets in the year 2008 indicates a ratio of 0.3788 and thereafter an increase in the 2009 as the return on assets ratio rose to 0.4987 and a further increase in 2010 to 0.5094, indicating that there was an increase in the returns on the net profit from the assets, as they were effectively utilized (Grant, 2009). As a restaurant that offers Mexican food, Chipotle Mexican Grill is considered to be the leading among its competitors in the United States market. This attributes are related to its ability to offer services that have got high level of integrity. More so, the services of Chipotle Mexican Grill is accredited as one that is of high quality and has outstanding reputation as a result, the company outshines the rest of its competitors who offer Mexican dishes as it is followed by Baja fresh Mexican grill (Allen, 2011). On the other hand, Taco Bell remains low in its operations because it offers lower food quality as compared to its competitors even though its menu remains favorable. The liquidity ratio of Chipotle Mexican Grill indicates the profitability measure concerning how effectively and efficiently the firmââ¬â¢s performance is accredited in terms of the current ratio (Grant, 2009). A good liquidity ratio gives creditors more interest in transacting with the company, as it determines the overall liquidity of a company in terms of business short-term solvency thus, its ability to pay back its debts as it runs its business

Indigenous Studies The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in Canada Essay - 1
Indigenous Studies The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in Canada - Essay Example Modern democratic society aspires to render equitable justice at all times. However, this might not be possible all the time due to certain constraints which impinge on the delivery of just and equitable laws. The implementation of justice or equity can be haphazard, biased, prejudiced and discriminatory whenever democratic ideals are compromised. Democracy is supposed to be the rule by the majority but on the reverse side of this principle, the minority in a society can be subjected to various forms of injustice. The lack of justice can happen despite the best intentions because people can subvert the legal system to their own hidden agenda or interests. Injustice happens everywhere but it has become more widespread and rampant due to a dwindling of resources. When people compete for scarce natural resources and other necessities in life, it is inevitable conflicts will occur. When this happens, it is those in minority groups who will suffer because their democratic space and political rights are violated in favor of the greater majority. As they say, democracy is a form of oppression. It is the tyranny of the majority on the minority who are outvoted in any democratic electoral exercise and often marginalized. The United Nations has taken cognizance of the fact that certain groups are at risk for marginalization in society. These groups include people belonging to an ethnic minority, those in the female gender, the weak and the old, the very young, the uneducated, and other people who by their various or unique circumstance happen not to belong to the dominant majority group. In these instances, it is supposed to be the duty of the sate to afford them protection by the passage of appropriate laws and the full implementation of these laws for their benefit and survival. The United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples has been

1952 :: 1950s
1952 In 1954, many barriers were broken that made this a year of success. One of the major achievements is the cure for Polio being discovered which saved many lives and made the disease extinct. Other successes include the revolution of music and the birth of Rock & Roll. Other achievements this year were the invention of the first 2-seated sports car, the corvette, and the beginning of the Sports Illustrated magazine. During this year, RCA also produced the first color television where families could watch shows such as the Nelsons and the Show of Shows. Swanson also made the first TV dinners that families ate while they watched TV. One of the major barriers that were broken was the invention of the hydrogen bomb and when it was released, it was noted to be the biggest bomb to ever be set off. The United States conducted a full scale, successful experiment with a fusion device in 1952, which produced an explosion equivalent to several megatons (million tons) of chemical explosive. In 19 54, the United States detonated a fusion bomb with a power of 15 megatons instead of the expected 7 megatons. It created a glowing fireball more than 4.8 km (more than 3 miles) in diameter, and a huge mushroom cloud that quickly rose into the stratosphere. The hydrogen bomb was tested in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean. The bomb was said to be over 500 times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945, giving the United States the technology to produce a bomb capable of razing any of the worldââ¬â¢s largest cities. The hydrogen bomb created a fireball that was made up of extremely hot mass and went off in a nuclear explosion. A flash of heat radiation was emitted from the fireball and began to spread out over a large area. The radiation was able to cause flash burns on exposed skin. Besides the blast and heat, the exploding nuclear bomb was able to release a penetrating nuclear radiation. The nuclear radiation was able to cause serious injury to the islands surrounding the Marshall Islands. The radiation was effecting the near by natives when it was absorbed into the body of people. With the invention of the hydrogen bomb, ââ¬Ëthe nuclear/atomic ageââ¬â¢ evolved and gave the United States the technology it needed to become the superior nation it is today.
